"Vasudeiva kutumbakam" (All the world is one family) proclaims the oldest and the continuing religion. Declared by God himself as "Sanadhana" (eternal), Hinduism represents the eternal quest of mankind to understand the nature, god, life and the reason of existence.
The basic truth of Hinduism is "Brahmam". Brahmam has been declared as the ultimate truth. It is god. All living beings are part of God/Brahmam.
What is Brahmam?
The thing that forms the base of all living beings is called Brahmam. It can never be explained. As the Hindu saints put, "the only thing in the world that has not been salivated is Brahmam", that means, Brahmam has never been explained and will not be. It is the goal of a human to strive and know about Brahmam.
Some basic facts about this eternal quest:
1. It is not based upon a particular founder.
2. It is not based upon a particular book.
3. It is not controlled by a central institution or authority such as a church or
an association.
4. It is not averse to examine and assimilate fundamentally diverse
thoughts and beliefs into its system.
5. It accepts other religions as various paths to salvation and does not favor
organized attempts to proselytize people.
6. It has been evolving continuously, through internal reforms and as a
reaction to the threats and challenges without.
Some thoughts of Hinduism:
There is only One Divinity hidden in all beings, who pervades all, the Self of all beings. He is the overseer of all actions, who dwells in all beings, the witness, the sole consciousness beyond all attributes.
Svetasavatara Upanishad VI.11
Who One only like a magician rules all the worlds with his ruling powers, who One only exists in the arising and birth of all beings: those who know Him become immortal.
Svetasavatara Upanishad III.1
